Technical Program Set for ASHRAE and IBPSA-USA SimBuild 2016: Building Performance Modeling Conference
ATLANTA, July 8, 2016 – The technical program has been set for the ASHRAE and IBPSA-USA SimBuild 2016: Building Performance Modeling Conference.
The conference takes place Aug. 10-12 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Early bird registration ends July 11, and hotel reservations are due July 15. For complete information, visit www.ashrae.org/simbuild2016.
The conference features some 100 speakers presenting practical applications of tools and case studies and papers on simulation, research and a deeper dive into current technology.
Conference paper sessions address a wide-range of current topics: model calibration and verification, urban scale modeling, uncertainty analysis, optimization, data visualization, reality captures for modeling, HVAC component modeling and load analysis, lighting and daylighting, CFD, energy auditing, life cycle cost and economic analysis, automation and scripting, combined use of tools, occupant comfort, energy efficiency and weather data.
Seminar (non-paper) sessions have an emphasis on simulation techniques and design. Case studies and demonstrations address standards and code compliance, such as ASHRAE Standard 205P, Standard Formats for Equipment Data Exchange, ASHRAE Standard 55, Thermal Environmental Conditions for Human Occupancy, and presentations on ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1-2010, Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings, ASHRAE Standard 205P, Standard Formats for Equipment Data Exchange, and IBPSA Project BIM/GIS Modelica Framework for Building and Community Energy System Design and Operation.
In all there are 17 conference paper sessions and 15 seminars with international participation from speakers.
Held in conjunction with the conference is the 2016 ASHRAE LowDown Showdown. Participants will model a net zero or below building. The baseline building for the challenge is a 50,000 square foot, three story outpatient health care facility. Nine teams and over 90 participants will create their model using the industry’s major tools. Team names include:
- The DeeBees
- The EUI Evangelists (TEE)
- The BEM Bang Theory
- Energy Derailment
- Insane Energy Savers
- Outpatient Zero
- Quest for Zero
- Newbie Energizers
The conference will cover two-and-a-half days, includes a “virtual conference” (recordings of presentations) and provides PDHs, AIA LUs and LEED AP credits. Preceding the conference are two days of training seminars and short courses.
Early bird registration for the conference ends July 11. To register for the conference, visit www.ashrae.org/simbuild2016.
ASHRAE, founded in 1894, is a global society advancing human well-being through sustainable technology for the built environment. The Society and its more than 55,000 members worldwide focus on building systems, energy efficiency, indoor air quality, refrigeration and sustainability. Through research, standards writing, publishing, certification and continuing education, ASHRAE shapes tomorrow’s built environment today.
IBPSA-USA is the United States regional affiliate of the International Building Performance Simulation Association (IBPSA). The mission of IBPSA-USA is to advance and promote the science of building simulation in order to improve the design, construction, operation and maintenance of new and existing buildings in the United States.
